HostGator recently reached 200,000 active customers and we are on pace to break 300,000 within a year.
I remember when I’d be out celebrating if HostGator managed to get two signups in a week. Now, we’re seeing thousands of signups a week. Back in the day, my celebrating consisted of nothing more than dropping the Ramen noodles or the tuna can I had in my hands and grabbing some sushi for an hour before scrambling back to work. At the time, I was a poor college student who invested every penny I had back into the business I was building.
The HostGator.com domain was registered on October 10, 2002 and here are some statistics about how many active customers we’ve had at a few points since then.
• 2/1/2003: 112 active customers
• 2/1/2004: 1,031 active customers
• 2/1/2005: 6,892 active customers
• 2/1/2006: 21,434 active customers
• 2/1/2007: 50,213 active customers
• 2/1/2008: 92,752 active customers
• 2/1/2009: 157,432 active customers
• Today: 200,000+ [...]

There are multitude of plug-ins on the market mainly created to benefit the blogsphere. However only a few are able to crack the code and be accepted by bloggers because of their usefulness. CommentLuv is one such plug-in which is making waves with bloggers as it helps generate traffic for bloggers commenting on other blogs. Today the founder Andy Bailey, takes us through the history of creating his hugely popular plug-in and what’s in store for the future…
What is Andy Bailey’s professional background and where is he based?
I live in Lancaster, UK with my partner and we run a Chinese takeaway and delivery shop with her brother. It’s a nice little business called The Fired Wok (http://firedwok.co.uk a comluv blog site). My professional background is a diverse and eclectic collection of jobs around the world ranging from barman to casino pit boss to now – guy behind the counter in a Chinese takeaway.
What inspired the creation of CommentLuv and when was it unleashed to the blogging community?
I made it when a new service launched that was supposed to get new bloggers traffic by displaying links on their site. Typically for a new service like this from a so called Guru, it only really benefited the big guys so I decided to write something that would put links to my own reader’s sites on mine.
I considered an auto blogroll thing but blogrolls were a bit ‘mehh’ to me because they required constant maintenance. I’m always up for finding a way to make something easier or automatic. I’m motivated by laziness

WordPress (salute Matt Mullenweg) has powered the growth of blogging community into a recognized profession and opened up business opportunities to ordinary people to own a share of the media space. WordPress as an open source content management system has also created a new crop of theme developers who are setting trends on how blogs look and feel. Today I’m chatting with R.Bhavesh about his journey into creating premium themes for a living, enjoy the interview…
Briefly introduce yourself…
Hello everyone, this is R.Bhavesh a 27 young designer, net entrepreneur from India. I love to help small businesses create their professional online presence easily and affordably.
From PremiumThemes.net to Templatic.com, why the need to rebrand?
While PremiumThemes.net was a good domain, it didn’t give us an identity.
Like I said, I love helping people build their online presence easily. Creating WordPress themes/templates is the work I love to do the most and will continue to build better, useful templates for years to come. Overtime we might also release templates/themes for other CMS and at those times, a good branding would help us establish ourselves in market. [...]

Interview with Robb Sutton, on self branded blog RobbSutton.com
Posted on 11. Jan, 2010 by Mohale Muzi.
Robb Sutton has curved a niche for himself on being the authority in mountain bike product reviews, already having showcased products worth in excess of $100,000 since Bike198.com was launched. Today, however the spotlight is on self branded blog RobbSutton.com…
You’re the owner of oneninety8 blog network and many people know you for your Mountain Bike Review blog Bike198.com, however I’m more interested on your personal branded blog RobbSutton.com can you educate us about this blog?
RobbSutton.com actually started because I was getting asked the same questions over and over again. How do you get all of those free products to review on the biking blog? How do you start a blog etc? Instead of writing the same emails over and over again, I started RobbSutton.com as my personal experience with blogging and review writing. That has grown into blogging tips, lifestyle design and a platform to launch various ebooks. I have really enjoyed the connections made through that site as I get to be a part of the blogging industry on a more personal level. [...]

Can you educate us about WakeUpCloud.com and the story behind the brand?
It’s an interesting story. For the whole of 2009, I felt compelled to start a blog on the topics that I love, which are spirituality and health. I planned for a long time, but it just didn’t feel right until just a few months ago when I began planning the launch of WakeUpCloud.com seriously. I’ve deliberately followed my intuition and inspiration when starting WakeUpCloud.com. For example, when I started thinking about the domain name, I started seeing clouds everywhere.
And I mean everywhere. I saw 3-4 websites within a short amount of time that had a cloud theme or pictures and I just kept bumping into clouds, which is when it became obvious that I needed to have something with clouds. I was getting so many signs to just start the blog that I was practically forced by the universe or whatever you want to call it. I love sharing the experiences I have had and am experiences within spirituality and sharing the practical aspects of it. [...]

Blogging provides me an opportunity to work from home (Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg in South Africa), thus I miss traffic, rude taxi drivers on the road and save on petrol expenses. I’m mostly online from 7 am until 7pm daily or late if there is an urgent project that I’m working on. Since my work doesn’t involve meeting clients, my dress code is very casual…actually I’m a t-shirt, shorts and flip flop fan.I’ve recently started doing a daily walk for an hour to keep myself physically fit, as I spend many hours seating each day. I don’t have a fixed schedule on my breakfast or lunch, it all depends on my mood.
The radio keeps me company, my dial is on Radio 2000 until 1pm when I switch to SA fM until 4pm then I listen to Kaya fM . [...]

I resigned from my full-time employment with a leading South African financial media house (Moneyweb ) in March 2009, after having been with the company for almost 9 years. This wasn’t an easy decision, considering my wife was heavily pregnant with our first baby and the recession was starting to bite. Now I’m chatting to Harsh Agrawal who also resigned from his permanent position to follow his dream of blogging full-time. He shares with us the journey into blogging full-time and making it a sustainable occupation…
Briefly introduce yourself, age and where are you based?
I’m Harsh Agrawal , a Pro blogger from Delhi, India. I’m a Software Engineer by education and blogger by profession.
Tell us about your blog and what inspired it?
I started blogging 3 years back with a personal blog, last year in 2008 I started a serious blog on blogspot because of my passion for technology. From my childhood I’m much fascinated by computers and that’s one of the reason I opted for Engineering. Later on after understanding the importance of Blogging I moved to more professional side of blogging by moving to WordPress. I opted for domain name Shoutmeloud.com because instead of going for keyword rich domain, I was keener of branding my blog. Having unique name helps a lot in branding and that’s what is happening with Shoutmeloud . (Shout-Me-Loud) [...]
