I’m a regular PayPal user since I pay my service providers online, who are based in India while I’m based in South Africa. This affords me the opportunity to outsource various skills from graphic design to web development for my web design business www.4thedesign.com.
Such skills are available locally, however there are quite expensive compared to the rates charged by Indian service providers. As a result am able to also pass these lower rates to my clients, which is my competitive advantage compared to my competitors.
As an online publisher, I’m always looking at other revenue streams in order to improve my bottom line. As a result, I also run various blogs and websites which are monetized through adsense and affiliate programs.
These affiliate programs are quite limited since I cannot join most of them, as they only offer PayPal as their payment option.
Here are typical examples on missed income:
1. Premium WordPress Themes by WooThemes.com and StudioPress.com are my preferred choices to be promoting on my web design blog www.4thedesign.com. I cannot promote them since I’ll not get paid my commission by PayPal.
2. On Travelwires.com I recently added a JobPress template which only offers a PayPal offer to accept credit card payments, I’ve had to disable that option and only offer direct bank transfers instead. If I could use PayPal, users would be able to add new jobs and be automatically published without me worrying about publishing all submitted jobs.
3. Darren Rowse from ProBlogger.net runs a downloadable 31 days workbook , which I could promote on Travelwires, however e-Junkie.com which handles the sale of the eBook only offers PayPal as a form of payment.
There are countless missed opportunities that I could list, however I feel the 3 cited examples gives you an idea of what I’m talking about.
Google has been smart enough to see the bigger picture by offering a cheque payment for their adsense program which enables a publisher like myself and others to also join their facility to earn a passive income from it. This also allows Google to widen their publisher base, since typically all online publishers can use their facility…thus increasing their revenue stream as well.
What stops PayPal from also offering cheque payment as option to publishers in Africa?
