Interview with Melvin Dichoso, MelvinBlog.com blogger

Posted on 02. Dec, 2009 by Mohale Muzi in The Interview

Briefly introduce yourself, age and where are you based?
I am Melvin Dichoso , 19 years old and I’m a computer science student from Philippines

Tell us about your blog, what inspired it and how long have you been blogging?
My main flagship blog is @ MelvinBlog.com . It’s been up for close to 2 years now. It’s basically a personal internet marketing blog in which I hand out all the stuffs I learn as well as some ideas that I think can be useful to a lot of my readers

What inspired the domain name?
My name is Melvin and my name has probably inspired it. :)

Before blogging what were you doing?
I’m a student and I’ve been involved in blogging long ago even before the WordPress and blogger platforms started.

Are you blogging full-time or part-time and how many hours per day do you spend on your blog?
Part-time, I spend 2-3 hours on a normal day, then probably 4 on weekends.

How is your blog monetized and how much do you make per month?
Private ad sales, some affiliate revenues and stuffs. I make 3-4 figures per month depending on how I feel (or my mood).

What is your best revenue stream?
I am an affiliate marketer so my large portion of income comes OUTSIDE blogging.

What is your content generation strategy and do you keep to it?
I don’t really feel I write good content. My opinion is just try to be yourself

Since blogging, what is the biggest mistake you’ve ever made and what did you learn from it?
Trying to sell my blog, I was actually influenced by someone who was able to sell his blog for over $9,000 (yet his blog is NOT better than mine). But then I realized hey blogging is fun, with money or without, I’m going to continue doing it.

What methods do you use to generate traffic for your blog?
Forum interaction, social media and guest posting

Is your blog authored by yourself only or multiple bloggers and why?
Me only.

Given an opportunity to sell your blog now, what would you charge for it?
As I’ve said I won’t but if someone willing to pay $10,000 then that’s the right price for it…

What is your opinion on domain name and blog flipping, do you participate in that space?
I hate blog and site flipping…checkout my blog post about this topic on The Death Of Site Flipping .

Within the next 12 months, what are your goals for the blog?
To have a bigger community and eventually become considered as one of the experts.

What have been the highlight(s) in your blogging career?
I don’t really know. But I think just being read by a lot is a pleasure and I consider it a highlight of my blogging career

Tell us about your workstation, is it within your bedroom/dedicated home-office/office park?
It’s within my room. I also have one in the living room but I rarely use it.

WorkspaceRoom - melvinblogWhat gadget or software makes your blogging a pleasure?
A lot. Camtasia and Dragon Naturally Speaking.

Blogging is a lonely profession, how do you keep yourself motivated?
I don’t believe it’s a lonely profession. In fact I have improved my social skills as far as blogging is concerned and it’s nice to get invited to a lot of events just because I am involved in blogging. Those are enough to have me motivated

I suggest you jack up your interview questions as your interviews are quite lame, and not customised at all……”What inspired the domain name?
My name is Melvin and my name has probably inspired it.” – DUH!
